Fixing Teeth That Are Too Big

I have two front teeth that are really large compared to the other teeth. Because of that they stick out for a bit. I’ve done some research and talked to a couple of dentists. One suggested covering all the front teeth with Lumineers to make them look the same. I feel like putting something on top of them would make them look even bigger. Another dentist suggested taking out the two front teeth and replacing them with dental implants. Are these my best options?

I want to start by saying do NOT remove your front teeth and replace them with dental implants. That is horrible advice. Whoever that dentist was, take him or her off your list forever. Bear in mind that I have not examined your or even seen an image of your teeth.  That being said, based on what you described, I think the sides of those two front teeth can be trimmed using diamond burs and diamond strips in order to make room to get them back inline with the other teeth. If they are too long as well, the biting edges can be trimmed down at the same time.

To get them back in line with the other teeth I suggest you have Invisalign done. This can straighten your teeth without anyone even knowing. They are invisible even at a conversational distance.

If a lot of structure has to be trimmed, then you may need porcelain veneers in order to cover the exposed dentin. Do not get Lumineers for this. This is a brand of porcelain veneers that is highly marketed to inexperienced cosmetic dentists. The fact that one of the dentists you consulted was suggesting that without mentioning trimming at all, makes me question their cosmetic skills.

You will want to consult an expert cosmetic dentist who can look at your teeth. After the examination, they may recommend a completely different course of action. If they’re truly an expert, go with their recommendation. The best cosmetic dentists are accredited with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
