Does Premium Home Whitening Work?
I have a coupon for Premium Home Whitening. Do you know if this is safe? If so, will it work? It’s a little less expensive than what my dentist charges. I’m all for saving money absolutely anywhere that I can.

Dear Amy,
I looked into this. It has a positive and a negative. First, the positive. The kit does have a valid whitening ingredient. So, it will whiten your teeth.
Now for the negative. The trays they use are not going to be secure the way professional teeth whitening trays would. The trays that your dentist provides for you are custom fitted to your teeth. This does two important things. First, the trays keep your whitening gel on your teeth and away from your gums. Second, it keeps your saliva away from your whitening gel.
The trays from Premier Home Whitening will be generic trays that you just bite down on to form. It will allow whitening gel to escape as well as saliva to get in and dilute what gel remains even further. This will weaken the gel so much that it will have only a fraction of the affect that your dentist’s gel would. Plus, the gel that gets out of the trays will irritate your gums.
My suggestion is that you simply talk to your dentist about your desire to whiten your teeth. If the cost is the only thing holding your back, it is very possible that your dentist will be willing to allow you to pay off your whitening in payments. If the cost isn’t the issue, then just save yourself a lot of time and risk by having your whitening done under the supervision of a dentist.
