Dental Bonding Damaged My Smile
I had some dental bonding done a few years ago. It looked fine. It was time to replace it but I’m with a new dentist because the other one retired. Not only did he not get the tooth color right, but for some reason there is now a gap between my teeth that wasn’t there before. Plus, the tooth he “fixed” ended up shorter than my other one. I mentioned that and instead of adding dental bonding to make it bigger, he shaved the other tooth, but he didn’t shave it where it looked normal. When I brought up the color and gap he said he could fix the color, but the gap just happens sometimes with bonding. What do I do?

Dear Dennie,

While your dentist may be well intentioned, they are in over their head. As you can see from the image above, dental bonding does not cause tooth gaps. In fact, that is one of the many things people get dental bonding to fix! Plus, the teeth can be even and have the color match beautifully. Don’t have him fix the color. Instead, just ask for your money back. If he gives you a hard time, you can show him this post.
I want you to look for a dentist with advanced cosmetic dentistry training. You can take a look at Dr. Wickness’s bio to give you an idea of what type of dentist you are looking for. The next thing you should do is look at their smile gallery to see what type of before and after results they get.
If they do not have a smile gallery, I would not consider them a serious cosmetic dentist and would look for someone else. If they do have a smile gallery but don’t seem to have the post-doctoral training credentials, then take the extra precaution of calling to ask if their smile gallery are actual cases that dentist has done or if her or she was using stock photos.
The right dentist can give you stunning results.
This blog is brought to you by a Nashville cosmetic dentist with integrity, Dr. David Wickness.
